Members of S.U.A.G. were  presented with a cheque for £808.00 by Jean Ireland following an Open day at the Old School House in Southport.  Friends of the Old School House (F.O.S.H.) have long been supporters of S.U.A.G. and this most recent event proved to be a great success with many people enjoying tours of the house and listening to its history.
Joyce Carrick, an ex-patient of the Spinal Injuries Centre presented a cheque for £5,000.00 from the Santander Community Fund. The charity was nominated by Joyce's daughter, Hannah. She wrote saying ' I nominated the charity after the fantastic work that you did for my Mum and fellow patients at the Spinal Injuries Centre in Southport. My Mum had her accident two weeks before I moved from Southport to Brighton in June 2012. Let me say a huge thank you ; the work done by your members to simply allow everyone to be "normal" after such life changing injuries really made an incredible difference for Mum.  It really was the small things such as the barbecues and social evenings that made the difference for Mum to come to terms with how to go forwards with life after spinal cord injury.  I really hope the grant allows you to continue with your excellent work'

At a recent ' Night In ' at the Spinal Injuries Centre Michael Forshaw and his mother Lilian ( a former patient) presented SUAG with a cheque for £1.700.00 which Michael raised in his sponsored trek to Everest Base Camp. SUAG was Michael's chosen charity in recognition of all the help and support that his mother had received while being treated as in-patient at the North west Regional Spinal Injuries Centre.  Lilian particularly remembers the delicious food served at the SUAG social evenings and the friendship offered at the weekly coffee nights !

The Spirit of the 40's Blitz dance held in March was a huge success, raising over £1,160 on the night. Everyone who attended really entered into the spirit of the evening and there were some very authentic outfits worn.  Residents at Weld Road really went to town and turned up as Naval Personnel and victims of the air raids. There were housewives in their 'crossover pinnies' ,  Sailors, Wrens and Pilots together with wartime workers and the general public in 40's attire all making the evening both memorable and enjoyable.  For photos please see Facebook.  Thanks to all those whe were involved in organising the event, for selling tickets, making hotpots and turning out in droves to support it.

SUAG members and residents of 6 Weld Road recently celebrated receiving £3000 from the Lloyds Community Fund. The grant will enable us to continue to support patients and ex-patients of the North West Regional Spinal Injuries Centre.  We are so grateful to everyone who voted for us by text, email and visiting the branch to vote.
